This single family residence in Sonoma, CA used the energy efficient Insulated Concrete Wall System. Over 35 panels were precast at a manufacturing facility using high quality concrete with fly ash, some panels weighting up to 15 tons, trucked to the site and erected in two days. The outside of the panels were finished with a final stucco coat and the inside surface was simply painted. The massive concrete and rigid Styrofoam wall system creates an energy efficient, moisture resistant protective envelope for the building. The owner is provided with a dynamic "R" value of close to 30 and the energy demand is shifted to the off-peak cheaper rates. Additional benefits are lower maintenance costs (no termites, no toxic mold), reduced sound transmission, and increased fire resistance. All make this a truly "green" structure that will last considerably longer than conventional construction - and it is affordable. |

| The Woodrow Wilson Memorial Bridge crosses the Potomac River between Virginia and Maryland, near Washington, DC.
The bridge consists of precast segmental V-Piers supporting the steel superstructure. The piers are both curved in elevation and flared in plan. The weight of the match-cast segments exceeds 100 tons.
MSK acted as precast consultant to the Virginia Approach precaster, Granite Construction, for their on-site precast plant. We designed the casting operation and consulted on precast production including the layout, production cycles, geometry control system, casting methods and equipment. |

| Olmsted Dam
MSK acted as precast consultant to the general contractor, Washington/Alberici on the Corps of Engineers' Olmsted Dam project on the Ohio river. This major project features the innovative use of very large precast shells, weighing up to 3,800 tons, that will be cast in a new precast yard and then skidded into the river, where they will be set into place underwater using a heavy-lift catamaran barge. |
